YKK manufactures snap buttons and hooks marketed by the YKK, YKK-Stocko and Advancen brands. The company is a leader within their sector and YKK products are widely sold in our country. We interviewed the Director of the YKK branch in Spain, Joaquim Sitges, to learn about the latest trends in snap buttons. He told us that YKK markets are mostly related to fashion “though we do not just develop collections for the fashion sector, but also for work wear makers. We seek to offer fastening systems to all sectors and segments existing today, always with the highest quality and agile service. We should bear in mind that fashion markets develop fast, and that delivery terms become shorter”.
The new collection
Our interviewee tells us about snap fastenings by YKK. “They have been designed with new shapes and sizes, and various finishes. Innovation is essential to YKK, and our line of business calls for this as improved techniques contribute added value to products”. He adds, “For example, our metal snap fastening known as FlexFix® is fully made in metal, with the exception of the spring, which is plastic. This makes fastening easier and more effective, as it will withstand extreme temperatures and more fastening cycles”.
This new collection includes worn metal and enameled surfaces, with many models combining both trends. “The collection is based on multiple aspects, interpreting world fashion trends generated in several segments. This collection meets the needs of designers, whatever their range of action may be”, our interviewee states. So, the collection comprises over one hundred different models. “This wide range corresponds to our intention. We seek to meet the changing needs of our various target sectors, and at the same time, we help clients improve and differentiate their offer”, Sitges comments.
Not only metal
Tin and stainless steel are the materials mostly used for making YKK products. But the company is also developing heads in zamak and plastic. “If we capture market needs and rely on the work of our R+D department, we are able to innovate as to materials used, according to the concept or type of markets and what brands seek to offer. This will result in daring concepts, to a lesser or greater extent. New esthetics, original creations are what markets need today”, he adds.
The Director of YKK Spain also says, “Our collection is also used by fashion creators, as a source of inspiration or starting point for their own proposals, as we view it not as something that is closed, but fully alive and able to combine different concepts in both products and responses to their needs”.
