The 60th edition of Salon Internacional de la Moda de Madrid (SIMM), planned by IFEMA and held from July 17th to 19th last, passed with flying colours. This was the first time the tradeshow was held in late July, earlier in the year that all previous editions, and results were very satisfactory. Over 600 participating companies agreed this was a positive event in terms of both quality and quantity, as some 10,000 professional visitors came from all around the world, with a large number of people coming from interesting markets like Russia and the Middle East.
HRH, the Princess of Asturias, officially opened this Salon Internacional de la Moda de Madrid, and toured facilities, visiting stands for about one hour. She showed interest in the trends presented and listened to comments by professionals in the sector. HRH the Princess of Asturias ended her visit to SIMM with a private meeting with about one hundred participants, including executives from Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Brazilian companies.
Regarding the dates of SIMM, most of those involved in this sector termed them convenient, for in this way exhibiting companies could show their products well in advance, making it possible for stores to deliver orders in time for the new season. Antonio Amorim, coordinator of ANIVEC-APIV, stated that for our companies this change in the schedule was vital, for it shortens the time in between seasons. Also, as the first day was a Thursday, a large number of visitors were able to come. Rocio Ortiz, General Director of ANAUVE, said that her stand was visited by a large number of people and Victoria Carvajal, Commercial Director of Tariano, said visitors to SIMM were of excellent quality, and that they could do business with international clients, mainly from Greece, Russia and Arabia, for whom “the quality/price ratio of Spanish products is very interesting”.
A good image for quality products
The area extended over more than 20,000 sq.mt, sectorized in Pavilions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Feria de Madrid. This edition once again offered professionals a unique opportunity in Spain, due to the diversity and variety of concepts, where internationally renowned labels had a privileged space. The innovating proposals for Men, Women, Underwear, Bathroom and Accessories, were presented in sectors: Gala, Perlas, Alma – with the Water, Earth and Energy spaces -, Eterna, Libre, Hombre, Pronto Moda, Accesorios de Moda (Gala, Pearl, Soul, Eternal, Free, Man, Ready fashion, Fashion accessories), where image was carefully studied, and both exhibitors and visitors praised the good taste, lighting and organization of pavilions and stands.
Among the novelties this year, one of the most successful was the new Underwear and Bath show, known as Alma Agua (Soul Water). The space, located in Pavilion 4 and with differentiating décor, grouped many Italian, Brazilian and Spanish companies showcasing their new designs for the coming season. During the fashion show visitors could appreciate collections by DIM, Wonderbra, Bath and Shock Absorber, and by Spanish group Gran Canaria Moda Calida and participating Brazilian labels.
Brazil as the guest country, to be followed by France in the next edition
Brazil was the guest country this time, with 24 companies showcasing products in the various sectors. Exclusive designs filled with liveliness, fantasy and fashion, were the great attractions.
As a world-class novelty, SIMM announced the new agreement between ABIT (Brazilian Textile and Clothesmaking Association) and ANIVEC/APIV (Portuguese Clothesmaking Association), meaning mutual support and joint work in the world of fashion business is now reinforced, as headquarters in Sao Paulo and Oporto will be interactive and working together for both associations.
The next edition of SIMM, with the proposals for the 2009/10 autumn/winter season, will be held from Thursday, February 12th to Saturday 14th of the same month in 2009. The venue will be Feria de Madrid and France will be the guest country this time.
