ITMEX Americas: a new trade show for the textile industry sector

The first edition of the ITMEX Americas trade fair, which is an exhibition of textile industry machinery, equipment and other stock will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from the 21st to the 25th of February. This fair will be held at the Anhembi Exhibition Centre.
This event is being sponsored by Alcantara Machado, a well-known trade fair organiser. It is expected that this ITMEX Americas fair will attract some 25,000 professionals in this sector from Brazil and other countries throughout the world. This event will be connected with the following sectors within the textile industry: preparation, spinning, accessories, flat weaving, knit weaving, dyeing and finishing machines, clothing industry machinery, CAD/CAM and CIM equipment, together with all types of specialised textile industry services and publications.
Evaristo Nascimento, ITMEX Director, explained that: “The entire textile industry chain is undergoing sustained growth and, in order to gain in competitiveness, it must expand and modernise its existing industrial facilities. We have a great deal of confidence that this event, which takes place every four years, will be held at a precise moment when the textile and clothing industries are experiencing an excellent period, with clear indications that the exports for these two sectors are currently established on a rising curve”.

Good prospects for the Brazilian textile and clothing sectors
In accordance with the fair’s promoters, the levels of enthusiasm for the event are reinforced by the indicators revealed by the Brazilian Association for the Machinery and Equipment Industry (ABIMAQ), which clearly show a general growth in the production and sales within both sectors.
According to this association, these sectors generated a production equivalent to $6,700 million dollars during the first three-month period of 2004. The apparent consumption attained a figure of $6,900 million dollars, which represents a growth of 15.2% when compared to the same period last year.
Another relevant indicator, according to Global Invest, is that the growth in industrial production in June was some 13% higher than the same month the previous year. Compared to the first three-month period in 2003, the sector grew by 7.7% in the first six months of this year. According to consulted experts, these were the best six-month period results since 1995 and justify a readjustment of the country’s economic growth by 3.2% for the year 2004.
